The World Trade Center Illinois offers nearly 40 international internships each year to students with proven records from around the world. In recognition that very few opportunities exist which present the same invaluable access to international sectors a WTCI Intern receives training and experience in international trade, economics, and diplomacy. While top candidates have a background in international business and affairs, former associates have spanned the spectrum of collegiate studies. From working with Illinois’ executive business leaders to participating in internationally trade focused events and conferences, a WTCI intern will finish with a firm introduction to every side of international business and affairs.
In general, a WTCI intern should be diligent and self-motivated, have an interest in international trade and culture, and a desire to expand knowledge of international business. They must work well in a team environment. Candidates are requested to commit two to five days per week from 9:00 AM- 5:00 PM. Described below are the several different internship positions available at the World Trade Center Illinois and other information about dates, schedules and how to apply.
We do accept applications year around for the next internship period. Internship periods are as follows:
Spring: First week of January to the end of May
Summer: First week of May to the end of August
Fall: First week of September to the end of December
Interns are required to commit at least two consecutive days a week 9am – 5pm. Priority is given to applicants with most availability. Please note that our offices are not open on weekends. Our interns are not required but encouraged to attend breakfasts, dinners and receptions outside of regular office hours.

The WTCI organizes business matchmaking programs, trade education seminars and business roundtable meetings among other programs throughout the year. The research to support such activities includes preparing country profiles, studying trade statistics and evaluating the trends in the global marketplace. Prior knowledge of foreign affairs on both the macro and micro economic levels are not required but encouraged. This internship position works closely with the Director of Trade Services and Program Managers to support our trade conferences and seminars, as well as in facilitating companies at various stages in their global market strategies.

The US-India Chamber of Commerce creates interaction, exchanges and networking between the Indian and American business communities in the Midwest. It sponsors business delegations to and from India. It also works with importers, exporters, suppliers, possible business partners, joint venture capabilities, business associations, professionals in various fields, etc. The Chamber also facilitates seminars, symposia, business exhibitions, bilateral settlement involving the public and the private sector companies, and individual experts. This internship position is involved in hands on trade issues with regard to growing commerce with between India and the Midwest, facilitating companies at various stages in their Indian undertakings.

The World Trade Center Illinois was organized to promote the common interest of business by forming a trade association consisting of business and individuals interested in the enhancement of international trade and investment. The purpose of the Illinois Africa Trade Institute (IATI) mirrors this mission by creating ties and strengthening existing relationships between the state of Illinois and Africa. Along with Northwestern University’s Africa Studies program, the oldest and most reputable institution for African studies in the country, the foundation of the IATI promotes African nations which provide the largest potential for international trade partnerships. This internship position is involved in hands on trade issues with regard to growing commerce with between Africa and Illinois.

The WTCI International Communications intern will work as a liaison to the press and media community in all the areas of communications including advertising, branding, direct marketing, graphic design, marketing, packaging, promotion, publicity, sponsorship, public relations, sales, sales promotion and online marketing. Communications are taken on in order to assist in the event planning, execution and promotion, both internal communications and externally to World Trade Center Illinois membership and the greater Illinois business community.

The primary responsibility of this internship is to work with the Director of Membership to facilitate access into global markets for companies which are members of the World Trade Center Illinois. The successful candidate will be involved with analyzing and working with membership in order to identify strategic growth opportunities. The Director of Member services is seeking a candidate with a bold personality who is able to generate and pursue leads, who is also detail oriented and able to track and report on progress.
